  24. For any of its software that requires MUI 3.2, you'd need to
  25. be able to run MUI 3.2.
  26.  
  27. For any other net software, such as browsers, that don't require
  28. MUI 3.2 but require datatypes for image display, you'd need
  29. at least OS 3.0 or 3.1 to have datatypes.

  31. Trying to do this stuff on a stock 68000 Amiga 500 would be
  32. to tempt fate.

  35. Suggestion: if you plan to keep your 500, accelerate it at least
  36. up to an 020 or preferably an 030, shove more RAM in it and
  37. get the WBench 3.1 kit for it. Doing this, of course, you'll
  38. end up spending many times the $$ that the computer is worth.

  40. Alternate suggestion: lookin c.s.a.marketplace for a nice
  41. used, beefed up A1200 and retire your 500, or give it to a
  42. friend, friend's kid, or someone you know who is computerless.

  44. Or: wait for the A1200 "Surfer pack" and buy one new. (Then
  45. put more RAM in it cuz 2 Meg isn't much.. I'm not saying
  46. "isn't enough" yet).

  48. Ultimately, you can only take an old computer so far, as in trying
  49. to hit a moving target, technology marches on, etc. etc. 
  50. You can do perfectly usable work on an A500. There's nothing
  51. wrong with the machine.  You just can't do the "cutting edge"
  52. stuff on it till you make some modifications to it, all of which
  53. are easy to do, and all of which cost some amount of money.

  55. The guys developing the new Amiga net software (browsers, etc.)
  56. are using the latest tools available to them. There aren't
  57. enough guys doing this kind of work (nor is there enough money
  58. in it for them) to also simultaneously release versions
  59. that are back-engineered to work in older WBench versions.
